TEDx Timisoara and other TEDx events in Romania
Each TEDx license is issued directly by TED.COM. TEDxTimisoara is the oldest active TEDx license in Romania. TEDx events in the country take place independently of each other. No TEDx license is subordinate to another. Organizing teams are also independent and are not subordinated to each other.
How did TEDx Timisoara started?
The first TEDx Timisoara took place in 1 August 2009 after a few months since Vlad Fiscutean (our Founder, Leader and Curator) was awarded by TED.COM the license to organise the TEDx Timisoara event. At that time there were more then one group of people interested in organising a TEDx event in Timisoara some of them even going as far as reserving “TEDxTimisoara” domain names confident that they will win. Vlad organised an international team and lead it to success, right now TEDx Timisoara being the oldest still active TEDx license in Romania, with the most events and attendees, spreading the TED “virous” in the country and motivating and mentoring people with success in creating more TEDx events in Romania. All this led to the most engaged TED and TEDx fans in the country (statistically verified) and probably a great international exposure for Timisoara (we have attendees from outside the city and country).

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
TED
TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 25 years ago, TED has grown to support those world-changing ideas with multiple initiatives. The annual TED Conference invites the world’s leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes. Their talks are then made available, free, at TED.com. TED has established the annual TED Prize, where exceptional individuals with a wish to change the world are given the opportunity to put their wishes into action; TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to organize local, independent TED-like events around the world; and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
