Since 2009 five editions have been held, one of the most important achievements being the rebroadcast for an audience of TED India 2009 conference for 100 people, a unique event in Romania. The team that organizes TEDxTimisoara is multicultural, having members from Serbia, Germany, India and Romania.
Oldest (still active) TEDx license in Romania!
It all started on August 1st, 2009 when the first event TEDx Timisoara took place, a few months after TED granted the license. I was, at that time, the second TEDx event in Romania, according to schedule, after the license TEDx Bucuresti (not Bucharest). Today, we hold the oldest TEDx license in Romania that is still active. Other such events appeared later in Romania. Among them, there are TEDx Bucharest, TEDx Cluj, TEDx Sibiu and TEDx Iasi.
A different approach
Unlike other TEDx licenses in Romania which organize one major event per year and small ones around it, which are invitation-based, TEDx Timisoara is offering access to anyone who wants to be informed. All events are open to public on a first come, first served system. There is no entry barrier, we do not need compelling application, and we don’t believe that a resume or an essay to apply for a place can be a better method of selecting the audience. In fact, no one should limit access to information! We strongly believe that ideas deserve to be spread!
The value of information is even greater when you get it faster and, of course, in a complete way. That’s why we’ve provided every time the live feed, even if it meant we had to organize the entire conference in only 3 days, or we had to stay until 5 am with you because of different time zone! We thank the many who have joined us!
In the future, we are going to organize a major event per year, events around all of the TED rebroadcasts, but we will organize even more thematic events with the help of independent teams, under the supervision and the mentorship of TEDx Timisoara.
The power of an International team
We believe that in order to make things closer to perfection, we need experts from as many fields as possible, from as many cultures as possible, having different views. One of the strengths of TED is its multidisciplinary and we really believe in it. Therefore we have built a multidisciplinary and multicultural team with members from Romania, Serbia, Germany and even India. Doing premieres in TEDx events in Romania
- We have rebroadcast TEDIndia for 100 people in Romania.
- We built a team that is multicultural, multidisciplinary and international.
- Interaction Cabine — a more personal one of the interaction with speakers and valuable people worldwide.
- Evangelising TEDx in Romania and collaborating with other TEDx events — TEDxReghin team event was created in April 2011; TEDxBlaj event was create in June 2011.
- Creating two original TEDx Timisoara cocktail drinks.
- Vlad Fiscutean, founder of TEDx Timisoara is the first Romanian to speak at an official TED conference (TEDx Workshop Stage at TEDGlobal 2011).
- The TEDx conference with the most TEDx licensees from other countries in the audience.
